Scotland make the short trip to Dublin to face Ireland in their final fixture of the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup. The match will decide who finishes fourth but more importantly, both coaches are looking for improved performances.
Ireland Form
Ireland have come in for some criticism this year despite finishing third in the Six Nations. They have only lost to France and England (twice) and are unbeaten on home soil.
When they played Scotland at the Aviva Stadium during the Six Nations, Ireland won 19-12.
Ireland rested all their key players last week against Georgia and came away with a 23-10 victory. It wasn’t the most convincing performance but it was a reasonably young side.
Ireland Team News
Jonny Sexton should return to the fly-half birth this week after missing Ireland’s last two matches through injury. There are expected to be a number of changes from last week’s experimental side against Georgia.
Billy Burns and James Lowe are however expected to miss out after leaving the field through injury last week.
Scotland Form
Scotland’s four match winning run was brought to an end when they suffered a 22-15 loss to France at Murrayfield two weeks ago.
The Scots had enjoyed a better season than many expected, taking fourth place in the Six Nations. In the Autumn Nations Cup Scotland opened up with a 28-17 win against Italy.
The following week Scotland picked up the winning points against Fiji as the Pacific Islanders couldn’t put a team together due to COVID-19 infections.
The defeat to France would have disappointed the Scots but they have a chance to rectify that this week.
Scotland Team News
Scotland have minimal injuries to worry about but Finn Russell and Adam Hastings remain out injured.
Duncan Weir has not set the world alight but Gregor Townsend doesn’t have too many options left at fly-half.
Ireland vs Scotland Head to Head
Ireland lead 8-1 against Scotland over their last nine matches. Their last encounter ended 19-12 to Ireland in Dublin during the 2020 Six Nations.
