New Zealand and Australia face off in the second Bledisloe Cup fixture at Eden Park on Sunday. Australia impressed in the first Test which ended level but can they repeat that feat for a second week running?

New Zealand Form

Last Sunday saw the return of international rugby to the shores of New Zealand as the hosts drew 16-all with arch-rivals, Australia. It was a cracking encounter that could have gone either way but it is certainly the All Blacks who will feel more disappointed with the result.

New Zealand should really have won the match but ended up coming within centimeters of losing it. Most of the blame for the draw fell at the feet of centre, Rieko Ioane who should have scored a comfortable try but dropped the ball over the line.

There will be a bit less rustiness this weekend which should see New Zealand prove too strong.

New Zealand News

New Zealand have made five changes to their team this weekend. Rieko Ioane has dropped to the bench after his blunder with Anton Lienert-Brown taking his place at outside centre.

Beauden Barrett returns after illness at full-back with Damian McKenzie dropping to the bench. Wing Caleb Clarke will make his first All Black start at the expense of the injured George Bridge.

Lock Sam Whitelock is also on the treatment table which means Tupou Vaa’i comes into the line-up. At hooker Dan Coles replaces Codie Taylor.

Australia Form

Australia walked away from the first Bledisloe test match with their heads held high. Not many people gave them a chance but the Wallabies were good value for the draw.

The disappointing thing for head coach Dave Rennie will be how easily his side could have won the match. With it tied at 16-all and the hooter already sounded, Reece Hodge laid up for a monster penalty from 55 meters out.

Hodge struck the ball beautifully and easily had the distance but it came crashing back off the post. It would have been the Wallabies first victory in New Zealand since 2001.

One would do well to remember that Australia beat the All Blacks last year and then got hammered 36-0 the following week by the same opponents.

Australia News

Dave Rennie has only made two changes to the Australian side from the last test. Flank Ned Hanigan makes his return to the side after a two year absence at the expense of Pete Samu, who drops out of the squad completely.

The only other change is at hooker where Folau Fainga’a makes way for Brandon Paenga-Amosa.

New Zealand vs Australia Head to Head

New Zealand lead Australia 47-17 over their last 67 matches along with three draws. Their last match ended 16-16 in Wellington in what was a pulsating encounter.

New Zealand vs Australia Odds

New Zealand are still firm favourites at 1.13 with Australia priced at 6.00 with bet365. A repeat draw is valued at 34.00.

The handicap for the match is set at 15 points which may tempt some punters.

New Zealand vs Australia Match Up

Australia were surprisingly consistent at set pieces which gave them a stable base from which to attack last week. Defensively they were also very good but will have be able to do it for a second consecutive week against an All Blacks side that will warm to the task this weekend.
