Exeter vs Stormers Predictions

Sandy Park plays host to a match that is expected to go down to the wire. Exeter have not been in great form, limping their way over the line last week. The Chiefs are strong at home though so I can see them getting within five points and perhaps upsetting the odds.

This is the first fixture between the two teams.

Exeter Form

The Chiefs won three of their matches in the group phase and finished second in the group. Domestic form has been inconsistent with nine wins and eight losses to their name.

Recent results have seen the Chiefs down Newcastle at home by 24-5 before beating London Irish by 24-20 in the Premiership Cup Final. A subsequent 36-19 loss at Bath would then follow.

The last result was a 33-33 draw at home to Montpellier. Exeter struggled as the match went back and forth. Montpellier were down to 14 men for the entire second half as they fought back to draw the match. The match was settled in extra time as Exeter advanced after scoring more tries.

We await team news but we expect the same squad to be announced as no news has been made available yet from the camp.

Stormers Form

The Stormers have been very good this season. Three wins in the group stage saw them finish in third and they currently occupy second place in the URC and are in good form.

The Cape Town side beat the Bulls away by 23-19 before beating the Sharks at home by 29-23. These preceded a 22-22 away draw at the mighty Leinster.

A 32-28 win at home against Harlequins last week is the latest result. The Stormers were in fine form and dominated the match throughout. The scoreline was tainted by some appalling defending as they conceded three tries from the 78th minute after the match was mathematically settled.

John Dobson’s has not announced his touring team yet but we expect the same team to be made available after not picking up any issues in the last match.

Exeter are quite capable of winning this match given the strength of their home form and even if they should lose then it will be by a tight margin.
