Saracens vs Ospreys Betting Tips - Ospreys tipped in the handicap market in European Champions Cup

Morale low as off field issues continue to plague Saracens

Saracens host Ospreys at Allianz Park as both teams attempt to recover from opening round defeats in the European Champions Cup. Ospreys welcome back international stars while Saracens' focus is still largely on off-field issues. I am backing Ospreys to succeed in the handicap market at even money.

Saracens Form

Saracens have made a decent start to the season but were well beaten 30-10 by Racing 92 in their opening European Champions Cup match in Paris. Without almost all their England internationals the odds were always stacked against them.

The 35-point penalty for breaching pay-cap regulations has come into effect after Saracens withdrew their appeal. This means that they will struggle to fight off relegation this year so they are likely to sacrifice European glory for domestic survival.

At home they are massive favourites to win at 1.03 however many of their internationals will still not feature. The internationals that are selected are likely to be on the bench for this clash before returning for English Premiership duty next week.

Sarries can be backed at 1.90 to cover the -23 handicap, but with their off-field problems I am hesitant to back them for a big win.

Saracens News

Only Jack Singleton and Ben Spencer of the England internationals returned for their fixture last week against Racing 92. Brothers Billy and Mako Vunipola, Owen Farrell, Maro Itoje, Elliot Daly, Jamie George and George Kruis were not considered.

This week we are likely to see the return of a couple more but I’d be surprised if any of them featured in the starting line-up.

Ospreys Form

Ospreys have lost four matches on the trot now which includes a 32-13 loss against Munster at the Liberty Stadium. Their form hasn’t been of a high enough standard but one can be sure that they’ll come out fighting against Sarries.

Another defeat is likely but they will face a severely under-strength Saracens outfit who have enough troubles of their own. Ospreys can be backed at 11.00 to win the match but I am focusing on the handicap market.

Ospreys are paying 2.00 to cover the +22.5 handicap which I think represents value.

Ospreys News

Ospreys have reported no serious injuries, but after their heavy defeat are likely to make a few changes. James Hook could get a start despite first choice fly-half Luke Price’s decent form thus far.

Head coach Allen Clarke is likely to give Wales World Cup members Bradley Davies, Nicky Smith and Aled Davies a start since they featured off the bench last week. Their other internationals Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric, George North, Owen Watkin and Adam Beard did not feature but could return this week.

Saracens vs Ospreys Head to Head

Saracens lead 4-0 in the head to head stakes with the last encounter in 2018 at the Liberty Stadium ending in a 15-15 draw. What is interesting to note is that Saracens' biggest winning margin over the Ospreys came in 2014 when they won 21-9.

The last time they met at Allianz Park Saracens won 36-34 in 2017.

Saracens vs Ospreys Betting Odds

At home Saracens are big favourites at 1.03 with Ospreys paying 11.00 to cause a major upset. A repeat of the draw these two played out last season will pay 51.00.

Ospreys are valued at 2.00 to cover the +22.5 handicap and at 1.90 to cover +23 points. A big victory by more than 23 points for Saracens has odds of 1.90 while they can be backed at 1.80 to cover the -22.5 handicap.

Saracens vs Ospreys Match Up

Both Saracens and Ospreys struggled up front last week, especially at the set pieces. This should be a interesting clash in that respect. With international players returning, it should be a better quality match but much of Saracens focus has been off the field in the last couple of weeks.

Post bet analysis

The Ospreys in reality never came close. More internationals returned than I expected for Saracens and perhaps I paid too much attention to their off-field issues.
