Ulster vs Exeter Chiefs Predictions & Tips - Ulster to get first win in Champions Cup
- Both Ulster and Exeter are out of Champions Cup progression.
- Ulster's form: lost 6 of last 7 matches; slight home advantage.
- Exeter's form: lost 12 out of 13 matches this season.
- Ulster backed to win by 12+ points in front of home fans.
Ulster vs Exeter Chiefs Predictions
This is a clash between two sides who have no hope of progressing from the group stage. That is likely to result in two weakened sides being fielded. They are also in atrocious form, so this could be a tough one to call.

However, Ulster have more to play for in front of their home fans, I am backing them to win by 12+ points.
- Ulster have lost 6 of their last 7 matches in all competitions.
- Exeter have lost 12 of their 13 matches this season.
- Exeter have conceded 60+ points in 2 of their last 3 Champions Cup matches.
Head to Head
These two sides last met in 2017; a fixture Exeter Chiefs won 31-19 at home.
Ulster Form
Ulster’s hopes of qualifying for the next round of the Champions Cup are long gone after losing their first three fixtures in the competition. Inconsistency has plagued the Irish club all season, although their European form has been particularly poor.
In their Champions Cup opener, Ulster were hammered 61-21 in Toulouse before going down 40-19 at home to Bordeaux. Last week, Ulster lost 38-10 away from home against Leicester.
Between the home loss to Bordeaux and last week’s defeat to the Tigers, Ulster also lost 22-19 at home to Munster in the URC. They did manage to beat Connacht 17-7 away from home to give themselves a bit of confidence.
Ulster Injuries & Team News
Much like their opponents, Ulster are out of the running in the Champions Cup. They will use this as an opportunity to rest key players to prepare them for URC action the following weekend.
Exeter Chiefs Form
Exeter Chiefs have been woeful this season, both in the Champions Cup and the Rugby Premiership. The former Premiership champions have lost all three games and are bottom of Pool 1 in the Champions Cup.
With just one win all season in all competitions, the Chiefs are in big trouble. They’ve lost nine from 10 in the Premiership and all three games in Europe.
Last weekend Exeter were thrashed 69-17 at home by Bordeaux in the Champions Cup. They also conceded over 60 points to Toulouse at home and lost 39-21 to the Sharks in South Africa.
Exeter Chiefs Injuries & Team News
The Chiefs can no longer qualify so are very likely to send a young side out for this fixture. Their focus will largely be on results in the Premiership moving forward.
Verdict
Ulster are backed to win by 12+ points in this Champions Cup fixture.
