Bulls vs Lions Predictions

The Bulls are favourites at home but the Lions proved on their last trip to Loftus Versfeld that they can handle the pressure. This shouldn’t be an easy win for the Bulls so the best bet is for the Lions to lose by less than nine points with a chance of an upset win.

  • Bulls have lost 2 of their last 3 Currie Cup matches.
  • Bulls have failed to win by 9+ points in 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Lions have won 5 of their last 6 Currie Cup matches.
  • Lions lost by 7 points against the Bulls in their last match.

Head to Head

The Bulls lead the Lions 4-3 in their last seven matches. They last met two weeks ago where the Bulls won 22-15 at home.

Bulls Form

The Bulls topped the Currie Cup table on 37 points with only two defeats.  They go into this semi-final as favourites but face a very dangerous and in-form Lions outfit.

Towards the end of their Currie Cup campaign the Bulls were hampered by COVID-19 infections. This forced their round robin match against the Lions to be moved to midweek a few weeks ago.

The Bulls won that game against the Lions 22-15 at home. It was a very tight match with only one try scored throughout.

In their last match the Bulls got hammered 44-14 by the Pumas in Nelspruit. It is worth noting that the Bulls played a largely under-21 side as they kept their big players fit for the semi-final.

Bulls Injuries & Team News

The Bulls will be back to full strength after resting their entire first team squad in their last match.

Morne Steyn is likely to start at flyhalf after missing the final few games of the regular season.

Lions Form

The Lions finished fourth on the Currie Cup table but were the form team of the competition. They won five of their six matches but due to the points carried over from Super Rugby Unlocked, lagged behind from the start.

The Lions only defeat came in their final round robin match when they went down 22-15 to the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld. It is expected to be yet another very tight affair come Saturday.

Prior to that Bulls defeat, the Lions beat the Cheetahs 36-23, the Sharks 27-12 and the Pumas 33-25. Despite losing to the Bulls, the Johannesburg-based outfit will come into this clash in-form and full of confidence.

Lions Injuries & Team News

The Lions have no reported injury concerns ahead of this semi-final. With more than a week’s rest the squad should be fit and ready to go.

Tiaan Swanepoel has been in stunning form at fullback and he will be relied upon again, especially to kick long range penalties.
