The Cheetahs are fifth on the Currie Cup table, one place below the playoff places with two matches left to play.
It has been a tough season for the defending Currie Cup champions but they have found some form in recent weeks. This match is however a must-win for the Cheetahs – defeat will mean they have little chance of qualification.
The Cheetahs beat the Pumas 35-31 two weeks ago and then annihilated the Sharks 37-10 at home last weekend. It was the Cheetahs best performance of the season thus far as they ran in four tries to secure the bonus point.
Cheetahs Injuries & Team News
There are two changes to the Cheetahs team this week. William Small-Smith is out with a knee injury which sees Rhyno Smith start on the wing.
Wilmar Arnoldi comes in at hooker at the expense of Marnus van der Merwe. At scrumhalf, American Ruben Haas retains his place ahead of Tian Meyer after a string of impressive performances.
Western Province Form
Western Province’s season has been slightly up and down but they are still second on the Currie Cup table, five points clear of the Cheetahs in fifth place.
Defeat this weekend will put Province in serious danger of not qualifying as they host the Sharks next weekend.
Since losing 22-19 at the Lions three weeks ago, Western Province have beaten the Pumas 28-14 and Griquas 34-17 last weekend. Both matches were played on home soil.
Victory will secure Western Province a playoff birth but Bloemfontein is not the happiest of hunting grounds for the Cape Town based outfit. There is rain in the forecast which should however suit Province.
Western Province Injuries & Team News
Western Province have only made one change to their starting lineup this week as John Dobson seeks continuity.
David Meihuizen will start at lock in place of Chris van Zyl. There is a further boost this week for the blue and white stripes as Scarra Ntubeni and Neethling Fouche both return to the squad after injury.
