The Griffons were always expected to struggle as they did last season, but the 2024 campaign has started atrociously for the Northern Free Staters.

In all three games thus far in the Currie Cup, the Griffons have conceded 50+ points. In round one, they lost 82-20 to the Cheetahs before a 52-10 home defeat to the Bulls.

Last weekend, the Griffons were outclassed at home again, going down 64-15 to Western Province on home soil. This will be their third successive home game but going by the previous weeks, it is tough to see a better outcome.

The Cheetahs are the defending Currie Cup champions, and they began the season like they were on a mission to go back-to-back.

The Free State side thrashed the Griffons 82-20 on the opening weekend to take all five points on offer. They followed it up with a 37-17 home win over Western Province, again taking five points from the game.

Last week, however, the Cheetahs were poor in Pretoria, losing out 25-13 to the Bulls. It was not a performance of a champion side and they will desperately want to rectify this weekend.
