Cheetahs have won five of their last six matches against Griquas. They last met in the 2020 Super Rugby Unlocked competition where the Cheetahs won 29-9 in Bloemfontein.
The Griquas go into the final match of the Currie Cup is last position having lost all four of their matches thus far. They have not won this season at all after losing all their matches in Super Rugby Unlocked as well.
The Currie Cup began with an unfortunate 20-17 defeat to the Lions at home. That was followed by a 22-17 loss to the Pumas away and a 34-17 defeat at Western Province.
Last week Griquas got off to a flying start against the Sharks in Durban but ultimately lost 47-19.
Griquas Injuries & Team News
Griquas have yet to name their squad for this match but there have been no reported injuries.
We could see Mox Mxoli get a start in the frontrow while Ashlon Davids will hope to get a run at scrumhalf.
The Cheetahs will be disappointed that they won’t have the chance to defend their Currie Cup campaign. They are fifth on the table but too far behind to have any chance of making the semi-finals, regardless of the result this weekend.
The Cheetahs have been made to pay for a poor run of results at the start of the Currie Cup. Recently they have performed closer to their usual standards, but it has come a little too late.
The Bloemfontein-based outfit has won two of their last three matches. That began with a 35-31 win over the Pumas before destroying the Sharks 37-10 at home.
Last weekend the Cheetahs had to win against Western Province at home to remain in contention. It looked like they had bagged the win but a last gasp penalty by Province saw then go down 31-29.
Cheetahs Injuries & Team News
Hawies Fourie has made five changes to the Cheetahs side that played last weekend.
Duncan Saal comes in on the wing and Tian Meyer will start at scrumhalf. In the forward pack George Cronje, Conraad van Vuuren and Marnus van der Merwe start. Oupa Mohoje, Khutha Mchunu and Wilmar Arnoldi drop to the bench.
While star player Ruan Pienaar is fit after being out for three months, he will not be risked considering that this encounter is a dead rubber.
