Tasman looked very strong last weekend while Canterbury also won, albeit not as convincing. This could be a very tight match, but I fancy Tasman on home soil to upset the odds.

Canterbury have won their last four matches against Tasman. Last season saw these two produce a classic, a match Canterbury won 30-28 on home soil

Tasman will be looking for an improvement on their seventh-place finish last season. After starting the season well, they faded towards the end.

In the opening round, Tasman got their 2024 campaign off to a perfect start with a bonus point victory over Manawatu away from home. It was a game they were expected to win, but Tasman turned up and dominated every aspect in a 54-21 triumph.

Tasman were convincing last weekend and as far as possible, should remain unchanged.

Canterbury Form

Canterbury are the most successful NPC side in the tournament history but have not won the title for some time now. Last season’s third-place finish was decent, but they will want to get a top two finish this time around at the very least.

Last week, Canterbury managed to get their season off to a winning start at home against Northland. It wasn’t the most convincing display, but not much should be read into the first week’s performance.

Regardless of the performance, the 34-21 victory is enough to ensure they have confidence heading into this clash which is sure to be a much tougher contest.

Canterbury won’t want to change too much after victory last week. They will have to shore up their set piece though, so there may well be a couple changes on the cards.
