Bath vs Exeter Predictions

Exeter travel to the Recreation Ground on Sunday afternoon in a match that they will be heavily fancied to win. Bath have been very poor this season and will have to do something special in order to stem the current rot they are facing.

  • Exeter have covered the -5.5 handicap in 7 of the last 9 head-to-head matches

Head-to-Head

Exeter have a 20-14 advantage in 35 matches with 1 draw

Exeter won the previous encounter at home by 20-15.

Bath Form and News

Bath are rooted to the bottom of the table after suffering twelve defeats in their sixteen matches played so far and have lost five matches on the bounce.

Bath’s current form includes a 25-10 loss at home to London Irish before losing at home again to Bristol by 15-13. A 48-27 away loss at Leicester would be next on the cards.

A 45-26 loss at Northampton was their last result. Bath were competitive in the first half and kept the score close but were unable to sustain their performance as they were blown away in the second half. The defence leaked four second half tries as Northampton romped to a bonus point win.

Bath are yet to announce team news but should have a strong squad available that is bolstered by the return of hooker Tom Dunn.

Exeter Form and News

Exeter Chiefs have a decent season so far and find themselves in sixth position on the table with nine wins from their sixteen matches.

Exeter beat Sale Sharks by 24-22 at home before subsequently losing 40-5 at Harlequins. The Chiefs would go on to beat Newcastle by 24-5 at home in their next match.

Exeter’s last match was a 24-20 win against London Irish in the Premiership Cup Final. The match was evenly contested which resulted in the scores deadlocked at 17 all at full time. Extra-time then ensued where Exeter held their nerve and scored a match-winning try ten minutes into extra time.

Exeter will be without forwards Jacques Vermeulen, Luke Cowan-Dickie Jannes Kirsten and Jack Innard. Fullback Stuart Hogg is also side-lined.

Verdict

I am tipping Exeter to cover the handicap in this one due to Bath’s consistent poor form throughout the season.
