Gloucester vs Sale Sharks Predictions

An out-of-form Gloucester host high-flying Sale Sharks in what should prove to be a fantastic contest. Gloucester are just one point behind European qualification and need to win whilst Sale will be looking to cement a home semi-final in their conquest to lift the trophy.

  • Gloucester have lost their last 5 matches in all competitions.
  • Gloucester have lost 4 of their last 5 home matches in all competitions.
  • Sale Sharks have won 2 of their last 3 matches in the Premiership.
  • Sale Sharks have won 5 of the last 6 head-to-head matches.
  • Sale have covered the -6.5 handicap in 2 of their last 3 matches in the Premiership.

Head-to-Head

Gloucester lead the matchup 28-26 with 2 draws in the 56 matches between the teams.

Sale Sharks ran out 27-17 winners at home in the last fixture.

Gloucester Form

Gloucester have had a rather disappointing season with seven wins from eighteen matches as they lie ninth in the table. They are battling for a spot in the European Challenge Cup.

The Cherry and Whites lost 26-5 at home to Leicester before losing at Newcastle Falcons by 17-12. Stade Rochelais would then beat Gloucester in France by 29-26 in the Challenge Cup.

Their last match ended in a 33-24 loss at home to Bath. A terrible result indeed as Bath are direct rivals for European qualification. Gloucester started well but fizzled out as Bath continued their recent form with a fine display to put a lacklustre home side to the sword.

Fly-half Adam Hastings and George McGuigan come back into the squad this week so we could see a small change to the team this week.

Sale Sharks Form

Sale Sharks have had a very good season and are currently second on the table with twelve wins from eighteen matches.

Recent outings have included a 35-24 home win over Saracens which preceded a 36-18 loss at London Irish. An unfortunate 28-27 loss at Cardiff would follow in the Champions Cup.

The Sharks beat Bristol 36-20 away in their last fixture. Sale put in a commanding performance on the road to stamp their authority on the competition as George Ford scored 21 points from his boot. The win has sealed Sale’s place in the knockout round.

The match day squad will be announced at a later date but the same squad should be available as news of any injuries or suspensions have not been disclosed as yet.

Verdict

Gloucester are on a terrible run of results whilst Sale will be fighting to secure a home semi-final so I am backing them to cover the handicap in this one.
