Wales vs Argentina Predictions

This will be proper knockout rugby, so I don’t see a high-scoring game. Both sides place a huge emphasis on defence which means under 43 points looks a good option.

In terms of the result, I expect this to be very tight and cagey. There may however be value in backing Wales to win by more than four points.

  • Wales beat Argentina by 7 points in their last encounter.
  • Wales have won their last 4 matches.
  • Argentina have won their last 3 matches.
  • Argentina have avoided defeat in 2 of their last 3 matches against Wales.

Head to Head

Wales have won five of their last seven against Argentina, including a 20-13 home win in their last match in 2022. Over the last three games, there has been one draw and a win for each side.

Wales Form

Wales come into this quarter-final of the 2023 Rugby World Cup with plenty of confidence. They have improved drastically during this tournament after three poor seasons.

The Welsh pool was not the strongest but all they could do is play the cards they were dealt. Warran Gatland’s side were fortunate to win their opener 32-26 against Fiji and they struggled past Portugal 28-8 with a weakened side.

However, Wales produced a superb display to smash Argentina 40-6 before seeing off Georgia 43-19 this past weekend. That saw them top Pool C where they will now face Argentina who finished second in Pool D.

Wales Injuries & Team News

Wales will announce their side later on this week. Unfortunately, Taulupe Faletau has been ruled out of the World Cup which is a big blow for the 2019 Rugby World Cup semi-finalists.

Argentina Form

Argentina have had a mixed bag of results in 2023 but came into the tournament with a favourable draw. They, however, suffered a 27-10 loss to England in their Pool D opener, a match Los Pumas were expected to win.

That defeat was followed by a less than convincing 19-10 success against Samoa before being Chile convincingly. Last week Michael Cheika’s side basically faced a playoff against Japan, which the Argentines won 39-27.

This promises to be a titanic battle, especially among the forwards. Both Argentina and Wales rely heavily on top of their opponents with a strong set piece

Michael Cheika will announce his squad later this week. Not too many surprises are expected.
