Wales vs France Betting Tips

Wales are the favourites to overcome France in the 2019 Rugby World Cup quarter final at the Oita Stadium. There is some superb value on offer for Wales in the half time/full time and handicap market having won seven of their last eight matches against France.

Wales Form

Wales struggled to get past Uruguay at the Kumamato Stadium in their last outing, eventually running out 35-13 winners after a couple of late tries. While it was a largely second string side, Warren Gatland was clearly not impressed with his charges.

Wales have been above par though and come into this match as outright favourites at 1.40, but it is the half time/full time market that has caught my attention with Wales priced at 1.80. I think that offers superb value against a French side who have not shown much in terms of form.

The handicap market is another worth having a look at with the bookmakers setting the line at 7 points. I am backing Wales to cover the -7 handicap at 2.00 considering that they have won seven of their last eight matches against France.

Latest Wales Team News

Welsh fly-half Dan Biggar was a major injury scare for Wales but all reports suggest he is free of any concussion. In more good news for Wales Jonathan Davies is also set to be fit. This means Wales will be at full strength to face France.

Wales: L Williams; North, Jonathan Davies, Parkes, Adams; Biggar, G Davies; Wyn Jones, Owens, Francis, Ball, Alun Wyn Jones (capt), Wainwright, Navidi, Tipuric.

Replacements: E Dee, Carre, D Lewis, Beard, Moriarty, T Williams, Patchell, Watkin.

France Form

The Typhoon that hit Japan over the weekend caused France’s last match against England to be called-off. Fortunately they had done enough to progress in second place.

In their last completed match they struggled to a 23-21 victory over Tonga at the Kumamoto Stadium.

The ability of France to cause a World Cup shock result is well documented and they are priced at 3.20 to pull off another historic result. Their form does not suggest that a big performance is around the corner but their unpredictability is always a cause for concern.

Latest France Team News

With two weeks break the French are bound to be fresh. They have had two weeks to recouperate any injury scares and reports suggest all is good and well on the fitness front.

Alivereti Raka scored and created a try in their last match against Tonga and offers supberb value in the anytime try-scorer market at 2.50.

France: Medard; Penaud, Vakatawa, Fickou, Huget; Ntamack, Dupont; Poirot, Guirado (capt), Slimani, Le Roux, Vahaamahina, Lauret, Ollivon, Alldritt.

Replacements: Chat, Baille, Setiano, Gabrillagues, Picamoles, Serin, Lopez, Rattez.

Wales vs France Head to Head

Wales have won eight of their last nine matches against France with their most recent victory ending 24-19 to Wales at the Stade de France. The last three matches have all been tight affairs with France covering the +7 handicap on two occasions and winning the other.

Latest Wales vs France Betting Odds

Wales are favourites at 1.40 while France are underdogs at 3.20 with a draw after 80 minutes paying 23.00. In the half time/full time market Wales can be backed at 1.80 and France at 4.00.

The handicap market offers value with Wales at 2.00 to cover -7 points and France 1.83 to cover the +7 handicap.

Wales vs France Match Up

This is a very intriguing clash as the Welsh structure comes up against the very unstructured French. Wales will place a lot of emphasis on dominating at set pieces and the breakdown. The result will largely be decided based on if they achieve that or not.

The unpredictability of France could play a major factor in this match. They tend to be very individualistic which makes this match difficult to read.

Wales have dominated France with seven wins in their last eight meetings. My best bet is Wales in the HT/FT market while I believe that Wales are great value to cover the -7 handicap.

Post bet analysis

France took an early lead through two tries which meant Wales had to work their way back into the clash. Something they did to eventually win but the -7 handicap was not covered, nor did they lead at half time. I should have known this would likely be that surprise French performance.
