England vs Ireland Predictions

This is expected to be a very tight contest with Ireland as very slight favourites. The Irish have been in great form since November where they beat the All Blacks but at home England certainly feature a bit more.

This is a tough call but my best bet is for Ireland to win and cover the -1 handicap.

  • Ireland won their last match against England.
  • Ireland have won 5 of their last 6 matches.

Head to Head

England have won four of their last five matches against Ireland. It is however the Irish who won in 2021 by 32-18 in Dublin.

England Form

England will still be kicking themselves after losing their opening round match 20-17 in Scotland. It was a match they really should have won and had they then they’d be in a great position to challenge for the Six Nations title.

That said, England did beat Italy 33-0 away before seeing off Wales 23-19 at home in their last match. This now turns into a must-win for England as they face table-topping France next weekend.

Should England win and France beat Wales then the English could claim the title by winning in Paris. That will however come down to points difference.

England Injuries & Team News

Sam Simmonds starts for England with Alex Dombrandt missing due to COVID-19 isolation. Harry Randall keeps his place with Ben Youngs on the bench. Tom Curry also returns after concussion.

Ireland Form

Ireland are the second favourites behind France for the Six Nations title. The 2022 Six Nations campaign began for Ireland with a 29-7 home win over Wales.

It was followed by a 30-24 defeat to France in Paris but last time out Ireland thrashed Italy 57-6. The winner of this match against England will have the best chance of winning the title ahead of France next weekend, although it is still very much in the French hands.

In terms of recent form, Ireland have been playing far more convincing rugby than England. The fact that this is being played at Twickenham however closes that gap significantly.

Ireland Injuries & Team News

Jonny Sexton makes his return to the Irish side after missing the Italian game due to injury. He may well have been rested anyway.

Andrew Conway starts on the wing and Bundee Aki at inside centre as Andy Farrell returns to his strongest side.
