Ireland have dominated this fixture for the last few seasons, winning their last four against England. England have not been particularly good this season either, but they do look better than they did in 2023.

I expect England to empty the tank on Saturday, and while a win is a longshot, I am backing them to get inside 12 points.

England have won 2 of their last 3 matches.
England have won 3 of their last 4 home matches against Ireland.
Ireland have won their last 4 matches against England.
Ireland have won their last 3 matches with a bonus point.
Ireland have won their last 12 of their last 13 matches.

Head to Head

Ireland have won their last four matches against England. Only one of those four were played at Twickenham which took place in 2022. Ireland won 32-15.

Last season Ireland beat England 29-16 at home in the Six Nations and 29-10 in a Rugby World Cup warm-up match.

England Form

England are still in a rebuilding phase and this could take another season. They are third on the table with eight points after winning two of their three games.

In round one, England narrowly beat Italy 27-24 in Rome before returning home to see of Wales 16-14 in another nailbiter. Last time out, England were beaten 30-21 by Scotland at Murrayfield.

While parts of their game looked good, Scotland were comfortable throughout the fixture. This weekend England will hope to open the title race by upsetting the odds at Twickenham.

There is still much undecided about England’s best side as the new coaching staff are still trying to find their best combinations.

Ireland Form

Ireland are six points clear at the top of the 2024 Six Nations table. They are odds on to defend their title and could do so a week ahead of time if they match Scotland’s result in Italy.

The Irish have won all three their matches with a bonus point thus far. They beat France 38-17 away in a very impressive round one performance before thrashing Italy 36-0 at home.

Against Wales in round three, the Irish struggled for parts of the game, but eventually ran away with it, winning 31-7 at home. They will hope to avoid an upset defeat this weekend which may force a showdown with Scotland for the title next weekend.

Ireland Injuries & Team News

Ireland have a strong squad so they could make a few changes to the side that beat Wales. However, I don’t foresee unforced changes taking place.

Verdict

England v Ireland

I am backing England to produce a staunchy performance at home, not too disisimilar to the one they produced in the World Cup semi-final. My best bet is for England to lose by less than 12 points.
