France host Ireland in a huge 2020 Six Nations encounter at the Stade de France on Saturday night. Both teams are in with a chance of claiming the title, and by the time they kick off both have a clear idea of what is required from the match.

France have been magnificent at home this season and deservedly go in as favourites. While England’s result could largely determine how each team plays, I am leaning towards France in the handicap market.

France Form

France have been superb in the Six Nations but one poor performance against Scotland has put them in a must-win position going into the final round.

France beat England 24-17 at home to get the Six Nations started before beating Italy 35-22. A magnificent performance then saw France win 27-23 away against Wales but they followed that up with a 28-17 loss in Scotland.

Last week France beat Wales 38-21 at home in an international friendly.

That defeat without a losing bonus point could cost France dearly. Victory over Ireland isn’t enough, they need to get a four-try bonus point and win comfortably to match England’s points difference.

France News

Lock Bernard le Roux has been cleared to play after being cited for foul play last weekend. France have no other injury concerns heading into this title decider.

Ireland Form

Ireland goes into the final round of the 2020 Six Nations with their fate totally in their own hands. They sit top of the table by one point but face a tough encounter in Paris against a French side also looking to claim the title.

Ireland beat Scotland 19-12 and Wales 24-12 in their opening two Six Nations matches. Unfortunately Ireland lost 24-12 away against England before bouncing back last weekend to smash Italy 50-17 in Dublin.

Victory doesn’t guarantee Ireland the title but a bonus point win does. By the time Ireland kick off they will know what they need to do to secure the title, but whether they can achieve that against a very good French outfit remains to be seen.

Ireland News

Wing Garry Ringrose is the only injury concern for Ireland after he broke his jaw against Italy last weekend.

France vs Ireland Head to Head

Ireland lead 6-1 over the last nine matches against France with two draws. Ireland won 26-14 at the Aviva Stadium in their last match in 2019.

France vs Ireland Odds

France are priced at 1.53 to win with Ireland paying 2.62. The draw can be backed at 23.00 with bet365.

The handicap for the match is set at 4 points.

France vs Ireland Match Up

This will normally be a very physical contest but depending on what England do against Italy, either team, or both could change tactics. There could be a situation where both France and Ireland have to play an expansive game in order to win by the necessary margin – this will suit France a lot more than Ireland.

France vs Ireland Stats

  • France have won 4 of their 5 matches.
  • France have covered the -4 handicap in their last 3 home matches.
  • France won their last home match 38-21 against Wales.
  • Ireland have lost their only away match in the 2020 Six Nations thus far.
