England are predicted to win the 2020 Six Nations Triple Crown. The fixtures favour England while most of their World Cup squad and coaching staff are still intact which gives them the edge.

Six Nations Triple Crown Contenders

England

England enter the Six Nations as favourites and with the fixtures falling in their favour, the Triple Crown looks a distinct possibility. In order to win the Triple Crown England will need to beat Ireland and Wales at Twickenham and Scotland at Murrayfield.

England have beaten Ireland at Twickenham in five of their last six meetings while Wales have lost at the home of English rugby on their last four visits. Neither Wales nor Ireland will be easy to beat but England have played some great rugby recently.

England are the only side in the Six Nations to not change their coach after the 2019 World Cup. This should give them continuity and an advantage over their opponents.

Ireland

Ireland’s fixture draw hasn’t fallen too poorly but they still have to play England away from home. Scotland and Wales have to travel to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin which isn’t a happy hunting ground for either.

Irelands should have enough to beat both Wales and Scotland at home but facing England at Twickenham will be a different story. It is a place where Ireland have only won once in their last six matches and the change of coaching staff could take some time to get their ideas across.

Wales

Wales won the Triple Crown in 2019 but defending that crown may prove a step too far. No team has successfully defended the Triple Crown since Ireland did it in 2007.

It is so difficult to defend because fixtures are changed every year and Wales have to play England and Ireland away from home this season. That is by some distance their trickiest fixtures.

The loss of Warren Gatland is sure to have an effect as well. While Wayne Pivac is a  fine coach in his own right it will take the players some time to get used to after spending 12-years with Gatland.

Scotland

Scotland have not won the Triple Crown in the last 20 years and that is unlikely to change during the 2020 Six Nations. While they are capable of causing an upset, I cannot see them beating the big three of England, Ireland and Wales in one season.

No Winner

After England this would be my best bet even though there has been a winner in 13 of the last 20 seasons. It is not inconceivable to think that either Wales or Ireland can beat England at Twickenham, although unlikely. Scotland can produce a shock at Murrayfield against anyone but I’m still leaning towards England pulling it off.
