Six Nations 2020 Winner Betting Tips - England set for Six Nations title

Ireland and Wales to fall in the wake of England dominance
england 2017 six nations trophy

England are clear favourites ahead of Ireland and Wales for the 2020 Six Nations title. The stability England have kept in their coaching staff should give them an edge coupled with the fact Ireland and Wales, the other two big contenders, have to play England at Twickenham.

Six Nations Contenders

England

England are clear favourites for the 2020 Six Nations title with Wales and Ireland in a transition phase. England retained the services of head coach Eddie Jones after reaching the 2019 Rugby World Cup final where they lost 32-12 to South Africa.

The stability offered by the coaching staff gives England the upper hand for me while their form at the World Cup was better than any of their rivals in the Six Nations. England have a young squad and all their star players are fit, bar Jack Nowell and Billy Vunipola who miss out through injury.

Eddie Jones

Perhaps the biggest plus for England is that they play the other two top contenders in Wales and Ireland at Twickenham which gives them a massive edge. It is difficult to look past them to claim the Six Nations title.

Ireland

Ireland have had a purple patch over recent years and went into the 2019 Rugby World Cup as the best side in the world. Unfortunately they peaked too soon and came unstuck at the quarter final stage against the All Blacks.

Andy Farrell has taken over as head coach and while it shouldn’t cause too much disruption as he was the assistant coach, there are still new ideas being tried out. Legendary captain Rory Best has retired with Jonny Sexton taking over the leadership role.

The biggest problem facing Ireland is that they have to travel to Twickenham where they have only one once in their last six matches. Ireland will most certainly be a decent outside chance but their form will need to improve from the World Cup.

Wales

Wales are the defending Six Nations champions as they went unbeaten through the 2019 Six Nations tournament. They followed that up with an impressive semi final appearance at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, so why are they priced at long odds?

Many of last year’s team remains, as does captain Alun Wyn Jones but they have lost the biggest cog in the wheel – Warren Gatland. After 12 successful years at the helm of Welsh rugby Gatland has moved on and that could sting Wales for the first year or two.

I feel Wales would be a very risky bet considering that they play England and Ireland away from home.

Warren Gatland

France

France have not won the Six Nations since 2010 and are unlikely to challenge this season. France only managed to reach the quarter final stage of the 2019 Rugby World Cup and finished fourth in the Six Nations for the past two seasons.

Fabian Galthie has taken over as the head coach for Les Bleus but whether he can get more out of the same group of players remains to be seen. France most certainly have the ability to cause a major upset on the day but they have not been able to produce consistently in recent years.

Scotland

Scotland failed to progress past the group stage at the 2019 Rugby World Cup so I don’t see them challenging for the Six Nations crown.  At Murrayfield Scotland should remain competitive but that is their only real positive.

Italy

Italy have never won the Six Nations and have finished bottom in of the table in 14 of their 20 seasons in the competition.

Six Nations Stats

  • England reached the final of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
  • England have retained stability with coaching staff.
  • England play Wales and Ireland at home.

Verdict

England have very beneficial home fixtures for the 2020 Six Nations which should see them take the title at 1.75.
