Blues vs Brumbies Predictions

The Blues have been in imperious form at home all season, unbeaten in their last 14 at Eden Park. This will be a mighty challenge for the Brumbies, but the Aussie outfit has plenty of quality within their squad.

Over 80 minutes it is tough to see the Brumbies causing an upset, however, I do fancy them getting inside the 11-point handicap.

  • Blues have won 8 of their last 9 matches.
  • Blues have won 7 of their last 9 matches against the Brumbies.
  • Blues have won their last 14 matches at Eden Park.
  • Brumbies have won their last 7 matches.

Head to Head

Blues have won seven of their last nine matches against the Brumbies. Earlier this season, these sides met at Eden Park, a match the Blues won 46-7.

Blues Form

The Blues have been superb this season, finishing second on the table with 12 wins from 14 matches. The top three had the exact same win/loss ratio with bonus points, the only thing separating them.

The only two defeats the Blues suffered were away to the Hurricanes and the Crusaders. At home they have been in perfect form, winning their last eight.

Last week, on home soil in the quarter-final against Fijian Drua, the Blues were far too good, winning the game 36-5. It was as comprehensive a quarter-final win as there can be.

Blues Injuries & Team News

Blues captain, Patrick Tuipulotu will miss this game and the final, should the Blues progress. Sam Darry returns to the side at lock after missing last week due to concussion.

Dalton Papili’i takes over the captaincy with the rest of the side unchanged.

Brumbies Form

The Brumbies have had a superb season as well, winning 12 of their 14 league games. However, concerning for them will be that their two defeats came away to the Hurricanes and Blues and both were by a heavy margin.

The 46-7 defeat to the Blues in Auckland earlier this season will worry supporters, although the Canberra-based outfit were not at full strength. They should be far better in this semi-final.

Since that loss to the Blues, the Brumbies have won seven on the bounce. That includes last week’s 32-16 home win in the semi-final against the Highlanders.

Brumbies Injuries & Team News

The Brumbies have opted for a 6/2 bench split this weekend. Experienced prop, James Slipper returns to the side while Rory Scott also gets a start at flank.

Verdict

The Brumbies are backed to get within 11 points of the Blues at Eden Park.
