The Blues will look to return home with a bang as they take on the Chiefs at Eden Park in Super Rugby Aotearoa on Sunday. The Auckland-based outfit has been superb in 2020 so I’m backing them to bounce back from recent results and cover the handicap.

Blues Form

The Blues were on a seven match winning streak before losing 26-15 to the Crusaders in Christchurch two weeks ago. Last weekend the Blues suffered a narrow 29-27 defeat away to the Hurricanes but there was plenty to take away from the performance.

Returning to Eden Park will fill the Blues with confidence once again. They should have too much for an under-performing Chiefs outfit with their fans behind them.

Blues News

Dan Carter’s debut was put on hold last week after having a niggle but it looks likely that he will make the match-day squad this weekend.

Chiefs Form

The Chiefs just can’t manage to get a win under the belt after losing their fifth consecutive match to the Highlanders last weekend. There have been a number of narrow losses along the way but confidence will be at an all time low after the Chiefs allowed the Highlanders to win 33-31 in Hamilton.

The Chiefs held a commanding lead throughout most of the match but a second half fight-back saw the Highlanders score a try with the last play of the game to win. This followed a 25-18 home loss to the Hurricanes.

On the second weekend of Super Rugby Aotearoa the Blues traveled to Hamilton and dominated the fixture to win 24-12.

Chiefs News

Head coach Warren Gatland may look to shake things up a bit after losing their fifth consecutive match. One of those changes could see veteran fly-half Aaron Cruden return in place of Kaleb Trask.

Blues vs Chiefs Head to Head

The Chiefs hold a 7-2 advantage over the Blues in their last 10 matches. There has been one draw.

The last encounter between the two teams ended in a 24-12 win to the Blues in Hamilton.

Blues vs Chiefs Odds

The Blues are clear favourites at 1.38 with the Chiefs priced at 3.10 and a draw available at 26.00.

The handicap is set at seven points with both teams paying 1.91 with Unibet. In the winning margin market the Blues are valued at 2.60 to win by between 1-12 points while the Chiefs are paying 4.25 to win by the same margin with bet365.

Blues vs Chiefs Match Up

The Blues have played superb rugby during Super Rugby Aotearoa despite losing their last two fixtures. Up front they are a match for anyone while their back-line has been full of tries. Defensively the Chiefs have been poor while their attack has shown signs of some form, but have not performed consistently.

Blues vs Chiefs Stats

  • Blues beat the Chiefs 24-12 when they last played.
  • Blues have covered the -7 handicap in 5 of their last 8 matches.
  • Blues have won 7 of their last 9 matches.
  • Chiefs have lost their opening 5 matches of Super Rugby Aotearoa.
