Blues vs Hurricanes Predictions
The Blues have had the better of the Hurricanes in recent times and at home should be too good once again. The Hurricanes may have some confidence after winning their last match but were hardly impressive in that fixture. My best bet is for the Blues to win by more than seven points.
- Blues have won 3 of their last 4 matches by 9, 10 & 15 points against the Hurricanes.
- Blues have covered the -7 handicap in 2 of their last 4 matches.
- Hurricanes have lost 3 of their last 4 matches.
Head to Head
The Blues have won three of their last four matches against the Hurricanes. When they met earlier this season, the Blues won 31-16 in Wellington.
The Blues are second on the Super Rugby Aotearoa table but eight points behind the Crusaders. They have lost their last two matches which will be of concern going into this clash.
The opening weekend saw the Blues beat the Hurricanes 31-16 in Wellington. They enjoyed a bye in round two before returning to action with a 39-17 victory over the Highlanders.
That was the Auckland-based outfit’s last victory. They went down 43-27 to the Crusaders in what was a tighter match than the scoreline suggests.
Last week the Blues traveled to play the Chiefs where they surprisingly lost 15-12. Both teams kept ball in hand but it was the Blues defence that let them down as they slipped off 29 tackles compared to the Chiefs 13.
Blues Injuries & Team News
The Blues have no reported injury concerns ahead of this encounter.
We could see a couple of changes after Jonathan Ruru impressed at scrumhalf off the bench last week. Tom Robinson will also be hoping for a start after scoring a try last week after coming off the bench.
The Hurricanes are second from bottom on the table but will have some confidence after beating the Highlanders 30-19 last week. That was their first win of the season.
It has been a struggle for the Canes this season after they lost 31-16 to the Blues, 33-16 to the Crusaders and 35-29 to the Chiefs before that victory.
Confidence may be up but it was not exactly a vintage display last week. The Highlanders dominated almost every aspect of the match but the Canes were defensively solid and had fortunate on their end.
Hurricanes Injuries & Team News
Jordie Barrett was the star last weekend, sinking nine from nine from the kicking tee. He is sure to keep his place at fullback.
Unless there is a late injury the Hurricanes could start with the same side that won their last match.
