Hurricanes vs Crusaders Predictions
The Crusaders will be fired up after a heavy defeat last week. They have a very strong squad and have dominated this fixture in recent years. My best bet is for the Crusaders to cover the -9 handicap against a Hurricanes side who don’t have a great home record.
- Hurricanes have lost 4 of their last 7 home matches.
- Hurricanes have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.
- Hurricanes have conceded the most points (145) in Super Rugby Aotearoa.
- Crusaders have won 7 of their last 8 matches against the Hurricanes.
- Crusaders have won their last 6 away matches by an average of 16 points.
Head to Head
Crusaders have won seven of their last eight matches against the Highlanders. Earlier this season the Crusaders won 33-16 at home against the Hurricanes.
Hurricanes are bottom of the Super Rugby Aotearoa table with just one win in their five matches thus far. With only five points, they will need an incredible run of form to make a play for the top two.
The Hurricanes met the Crusaders in round two where they suffered a 33-16 away loss. That was followed by a 29-35 home defeat to the Chiefs after leading comfortably at the break.
Their only victory came in round five, beating the Highlanders 30-19 away. Despite being very competitive last weekend, the Hurricanes went down 27-17 in Auckland against the Blues.
Hurricanes Injuries & Team News
The Hurricanes have made a few changes this week. Ruben Love will start at flyhalf, Wes Goosen at wing and Peter Umaga-Jensen at outside centre.
At prop, Xavier Numia comes in for Fraser Armstrong while Scott Scrafton is dropped for Isaia Walker-Leawere at lock.
The Crusaders sit top of the table after five matches on 18 points. They have won four of their five matches but last week’s defeat has handed those below them hope.
In the first four matches of the season, the Saders’ were completely dominant and looked to be cruising to the title. Last week they suffered a shock 33-12 loss at home to the Highlanders, a result that came out of nowhere.
That result will be looked upon like a blip rather than the start of a collapse for the Crusaders. They still have more than enough quality to see off all comers.
Crusaders Injuries & Team News
Leicester Fainga’anuku has been dropped to accommodate Sevu Reece on the wing. The only other change in the backline sees Mitchell Drummond miss out at scrumhalf with Bryn Hall coming in.
Among the forwards, Ethan Blackadder moves to the bench with Whetukamokamo Douglas starting at flank. Prop Joe Moody makes his 100th Crusaders appearance.
