Jaguares vs Sunwolves - Hapless Sunwolves in for another mauling

Resting key players unlikely to affect Jaguares in Buenos Aires

Jaguares vs Sunwolves Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The Jaguares welcome the Sunwolves to the Jose Amalfitani Stadium this weekend in what should be a one sided Super Rugby affair. The Tokyo-based outfit have lost their last eight matches while the Jaguares are in great form with eight wins from nine.

With the Sunwolves struggling for any sort of form and a hectic travelling schedule behind them, I am tipping the Jaguares to cover the -21 handicap with ease at 1.90.

Jaguares Form & Team News

Undoubtedly the form team of the tournament at the moment, the Jaguares are now sure of second position in the Super Rugby table after their convincing 33-7 victory over the Sharks.

While many thought the Sharks could match them last week at the Jose Amalfitani Stadium, the Jaguares annihilated the Durban-based outfit.

The Jaguares are likely to rest numerous stars this weekend with one eye on the playoffs, but they have plenty of international quality depth. Their team selection is unlikely to affect the outcome of this match.

The Argentines are odds on favourites at 1.05 but I’m looking at them to cover the -21 handicap in this clash at 1.90.

Sunwolves Form & Team News

The Sunwolves are on an eight match losing streak with five of those defeats coming by more than 21 points. To make matters worse for the Japanese outfit, their schedule has done them no favours.

They travelled to South Africa last week to play the Stormers at Newlands, a match they lost 31-18. Despite defeat, winger Semisi Masirewa scored a brace and will be popular in the try-scoring market this week.

Straight after the match in Cape Town they were on a flight to Buenos Aires for another stiff challenge against the Jaguares this week.

The Sunwolves have been poor after a bright start to their season. They just don’t have the squad to deal with injuries and players needing rest. They can be backed to get the most unlikely victory at 10.00 with a draw paying 51.00.

Jaguares vs Sunwolves Head to Head

The Jaguares and Sunwolves have only met twice, in 2016 and 2017 and sit with one win apiece. In 2016 the Sunwolves won 36-28 in Tokyo while the Jaguares took the spoils in Argentina a year later 46-39.

Jaguares vs Sunwolves Match Up

The Jaguares have found form in the last 10 weeks of Super Rugby. Their biggest strength is perhaps their squad which is filled with international quality that has allowed them to rest players at crucial times.

The Sunwolves were promising early in the campaign but contrary to the Jaguares, their squad depth is rather poor. They will hope the Jaguares focus is on their playoff game rather than them this weekend.

Jaguares vs Sunwolves Key Statistics

  • Jaguares have won 8 of their last 9 matches (Super Rugby).
  • Jaguares covered the -21 handicap against the Sharks in their last outing.
  • Sunwolves have lost their last 8 matches (Super Rugby)
  • Sunwolves have failed to cover the +21 handicap in 5 of their last  8 matches (Super Rugby).

I am tipping the Jaguares to cover the -21 handicap at 1.90. The Sunwolves are in terrible form with eight straight defeats and they have travelled a lot over the last fortnight which won’t help their cause.
