Queensland Reds vs Sunwolves Preview & Betting Tips

The Queensland Reds hosts the Sunwolves in the final regular season game for both of these sides. The Reds will be desperate to end the season on a high note and avenge the 63-28 loss they suffered at hands of the Sunwolves earlier in the season.

Queensland Reds

The Reds have shown plenty of promise this season and were able to snap a five-game losing streak with their upset win over the Rebels at home. The Reds are clearly a side in transition and will be looking to improve on their 5 wins in 2019.

Queensland will benefit from some experienced halves pairing to provide more direction for their young and exciting backline. The Reds will put some points on the board this weekend and claim their sixth win against the Sunwolves.

Sunwolves

Under new coach Tony Brown, the Sunwolves have been far from disgraced in 2018. The Japanese side have had their most successful season in Super Rugby, notching 3-wins for the season and have averaged 25-points per game.

The Sunwolves were belted last week thanks to a red card against NSW and defence hasn’t helped them over their last three games. The Japanese outfit have struggled with their defensive structure over their last three games and will be hopeful of an improvement against a young Reds side.

Match Up

These two sides have played each other twice since 2017 with the home side coming out on top. The Sunwolves embarrassed the Reds 63-28 in Tokyo and have improved on their performance in 2017. Brad Thorn’s side were magnificent in stunning the Rebels last week 37-23 and enter the contest full of positive momentum. The Reds will be keen to finish the season in style in front of their home crowd, while the Sunwolves have struggled on the road.

The Japanese side were belted 77-25 last week by the Waratahs in Sydney. The Sunwolves have lost three of their last four games and the Reds can look to finish off the season in style with a confidence building win at home.

Key Statistics

  • The Reds are looking for back to back wins for the first time since round 5.
  • Reds forward Brandon Paenga-Amosa has scored 4 tries in 2018.
  • The Sunwolves have conceded 155 points in their last 3 games.
  • The Sunwolves have the best goalkicking percentage in Super Rugby - 88%

Verdict

Queensland pulled of a major upset in round 18 of the competition with a 37-23 victory over the Rebels at home. The Sunwolves were well beaten by the Waratahs last week and form would have to favour the home side heading into the final clash of the Super Rugby season.

This match will have little bearing on the 2018 finals series and we should be able to see some entertaining rugby at Suncorp Stadium. We’re backing the home side to come out on top and finish 2018 with a bang against the visitors.
