The Cheetahs travel to Durban to face the Sharks at Kings Park in a Super Rugby Unlocked fixture on Friday evening. The visitors have won their opening two matches of the competition and should be more than a match for the Sharks this weekend.

Sharks Form

The Sharks season has been a bit up and down thus far. They defeated the Lions 19-16 in their first match only to be hammered 41-14 at the Bulls two weeks ago.

Last week the Sharks showed what they are capable of when they get it right as they beat the Pumas 42-19 in Nelspruit.

Sharks News

The Sharks are missing two international stars this weekend. Winger Sbu Nkosi has been ruled out as has captain Lukhanyo Am. Jeremy Ward and Yaw Penxe will start at centre and wing respectively.

Sharks Starting Line Up

15 Manie Libbok, 14 Yaw Penxe, 13 Jeremy Ward, 12 Marius Louw, 11 Madosh Tambwe, 10 Curwin Bosch, 9 Sanele Nohamba, 8 Phendulani Buthelezi, 7 Henco Venter (c), 6 Dylan Richardson 5 Hyron Andrews, 4 JJ van der Mescht, 3 John Hubert-Meyer, 2 Dan Jooste, 1 Ox Nche.

Subs: 16 Kerron van Vuuren, 17 Mzamo Majola, 18 Michael Kumbirai, 19 Ruben van Heerden, 20 Thembelani Bholi, 21 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 22 Grant Williams, 23 Werner Kok.

Cheetahs Form

The Cheetahs won their opening two Super Rugby Unlocked matches before having their third match against the Lions postponed. Last week the Cheetahs had a bye which means they come into this match with no rugby for almost three weeks.

That may leave the Cheetahs slightly undercooked at the Shark Tank but the Bloemfontein-based outfit will still have plenty of confidence. On the opening weekend the Cheetahs put in a scintillating performance to see off the Pumas 53-31 before beating the Bulls 19-17 at home.

Cheetahs News

The Cheetahs will make at least three changes to their side. Centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg and locks Walt Steenkamp and Jasper Wiese have left the franchise. Loose-forward Oupa Mohoje is likely to make his return on Friday after an almost two-year absence from the game.

Cheetahs Starting Line Up

Sharks vs Cheetahs Odds

The Sharks are favourites at 1.72 with the Cheetahs offering value at 2.20 to win with bet365. A draw is paying 21.00.

The handicap for this match is set at 2 points.

Sharks vs Cheetahs Match Up

The Cheetahs still play their expansive brand of rugby but what is noticeable is their improvement in set pieces and on defence. This should ensure they are a more consistent side going forward. The Sharks on the other hand will need to be tactically on point as the Cheetahs counter-attack has already proven to be deadly.

  • Cheetahs have won their last 2 Super Rugby Unlocked matches.
