Sharks vs Jaguares Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The Sharks return home to take on the Jaguares at Kings Park in the 2020 Super Rugby. Travel fatigue is sure to set in for the Sharks and I can see a upset on the cards after the Jaguares beat the Sharks 51-17 at Kings Park last season.

Sharks Form

Sharks have won four of their opening five matches 2020 Super Rugby matches. Last weekend they defeated the Reds 33-23 at the Suncorp Stadium to end their tour.

They return home with three wins from their four-match tour of Australasia which is a stellar achievement. What must be considered is that they beat two weak Australian sides and a Highlanders team who were playing their first match of the season.

That doesn’t mean the Sharks were poor, quite the contrary, they have been very impressive. But the Jaguares will be the strongest side they have faced this season, bar the Hurricanes in a game they lost.

That coupled with the long flight home to play a Jaguares team who has been in South Africa for three weeks already poses a problem.

Sharks News

Sharks have returned home after a four week tour to New Zealand and Australia with most of their key players still fit and firing.  There may be a few changes considering the amount of traveling but head coach Sean Everitt isn’t one for changing too much after victories.

Jaguares Form

The Jaguares have made a slower than expected start to the season but have still won three of their five matches thus far. All three victories have come by 15 points or more, the latest being a 39-24 win over the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld this past weekend.

It was a game the Jaguares mostly dominated but only made that domination count towards the end of the first half. The Argentinean side will be full of confidence after comfortably destroying the Sharks 51-17 last season at Kings Park.

The bookmakers have made the Jaguares underdogs at 2.40 while they are paying 2.00 to cover the +3 handicap.

Jaguares News

Jaguares have no reported injury concerns but are likely to freshen up. Domingo Miotti could replace Joaquin Diaz Bonilla at fly-half while Mayco Vivas should take over at hooker from veteran Julian Montoya.

Sharks vs Jaguares Head to Head

The Jaguares have won three of their last four matches against the Sharks. The last time these two met the Jaguares ran out 51-17 winners at Kings Park in Durban.

Sharks vs Jaguares Betting Odds

The Sharks are favourites at 1.61 to win with the Jaguares offering value at 2.40. The handicap market is set at 3 points with the Sharks paying 1.83 and the Jaguares 2.00 to cover.

The HT/FT market offers 2.05 for the Sharks and 3.10 for the Jaguares. In the winning margin market the Sharks can be backed to win by 1-12 points at 2.80 and the Jaguares 3.60.

Sharks vs Jaguares Match Up

The Jaguares may be away from home for this encounter, but it is the Sharks who have done all the traveling. The hosts return after a four week tour of Australasia which will surely have an effect on the squad.

It is at the set pieces where the Jaguares will target the Sharks. The Durban-based outfit showed that they are vulnerable at the scrum during their successful tour recently.

Post bet analysis

The match was in the balance but a run of points early in the second half saw the Sharks win 33-19. The contest was tighter than the scoreline suggests but nevertheless a loss on the game.
