Connacht vs Lions Predictions & Tips - Connacht set for comfortable URC win

Connacht beat the Lions 33-30 in Johannesburg last season. That was their only previous encounter.

Connacht have endured a poor season to this point. They are in 11th place on the URC table, just one point ahead of their opponents for this clash.

Consistency has been lacking for the Irish outfit this entire season although they have still proven themselves to be a tough nut to crack on home soil. Connacht ended 2022 with a  22-20 loss at home to Ulster before going down 41-12 at Leinster to start 2023.

Two wins followed as Connacht defeated the Sharks 24-12 at home and then thrashed Brive 61-5 in Europe. This past weekend however Connacht fell short against Newcastle, going down 35-21 away from home.

Connacht are expected to select their strongest available side. They need to start winning this weekend if they want to have a run at the playoffs.

The Lions are currently 12 in the URC with five wins and six defeats in 11 games. It has been a relatively quiet season from the Johannesburg side, but they have pretty much produced what most through they would.

Over the course of the season the Lions have achieved some impressive results, but by the same token, they have lost a few they were expected to win. At the weekend the Lions were impressive, beating the Dragons 30-25 away in the Champions Cup.

Prior to that the Joburg side lost to Stade Francais, Munster, Stormers, and the Sharks. All those defeats were by reasonably hefty margins.

The Lions progressed to the next round of the Champions Cup last weekend. They will have decent confidence.
