An opening weekend draw in Italy against Benetton was followed by a home defeat to Cardiff. The Scarlets then lost by a point at home to Connacht before bouncing back to beat Cardiff away from home.

Two more victories followed in their two games before the international break, beating the Bulls 23-22 at home and Zebre 30-8, also on home soil.
