Leinster vs Glasgow Warriors Preview

Leinster have been dominant at home this season and have not lost there in the URC. I do, however, expect Glasgow to challenge the hosts and get within the handicap.

  • Leinster have won their last 2 matches against Glasgow.
  • Leinster have won 16 of their last 18 URC matches.
  • Leinster have won their last 9 URC home matches.
  • Glasgow have lost 3 of their last 4 matches.

Head to Head

Leinster have beaten Glasgow twice this season. Their last encounter saw Leinster win 13-5 at home just a few weeks ago.

Leinster Form

Leinster dominated the URC this season, winning 16 of their 18 matches. They finished top of the table; eight points clear of the Bulls in second place.

However, Leinster have once again missed out on European glory in the Champions Cup, which has certainly affected the team. Last week, in the URC quarter-final, Leinster struggled to a 33-21 victory over the Scarlets at home.

Usually that would have been a straightforward affair for the Irish giants, but they looked more interested in getting the season done with. This weekend, while unbeaten at home, they will have to be at their best to beat the defending champions.

Leinster Injuries & Team News

Josh van der Flier went off last week with a hamstring injury and has not yet been passed fit. There are also concerns over Garry Ringrose who missed last week, but he is expected to make it this weekend. Tadhg Furlong has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Glasgow Warriors Form

Glasgow have perhaps not been as strong as last season but still managed a top four finish. They won 11 of their 18 matches with their home form proving particularly strong.

For a period, the Warrios struggled after being annihilated 52-0 by Leinster in the Champions Cup quarterfinal. They went on to narrowly beat Zebre, lost to the Bulls at home and lost away to Benetton.

However, in the final round robin game of the season, Glasgow took Leinster to the wire, losing the match 13-5 away from home. Last weekend, in the quarterfinal against the Stormers, the Warriors were back to their best, cruising to a 36-18 victory at home.

Glasgow Warriors Injuries & Team News

Glasgow should have a very similar look to the team that beat the Stormers last Friday. There has been no fresh reports of injury.

Verdict

I am backing Glasgow to get within the 12.5 handicap against Leinster in this semi-final.
