Mark Selby claimed the title at the British Open in September, defeating John Higgins 10-5 in a dominant performance in the final.
Selby has also reached the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters before losing to Shaun Murphy, the last four of the Snooker Shootout and the quarter-finals of the English Open and The Masters.
He suffered early exits in the Northern Ireland Open, International Championship, UK Championship, Scottish Open, Riyadh Snooker Championship and German Masters this season too.
At the Welsh Open, fourth seed Selby has beaten Haydon Pinhey, Elliot Slessor, Jamie Jones, John Higgins and Luca Brecel en route to the final.

Stephen Maguire is into his first ranking event final since the 2019/20 season.
Maguire's path to the Welsh Open final has seen him beat Xu Si, Mark Williams, Sanderson Lam, Jack Lisowski and Ali Carter.
It is the highlight on an otherwise disappointing season that has seen the Scot fail to reach the last eight of any tournament.
Maguire's best result was the fourth round of the Saudi Arabia Masters and third round efforts in the British Open and Snooker Shootout.
