O'Sullivan has won the three matches played since at the Northern Ireland Open and World Grand Prix last year, and the Championship League last week.

World number three Ronnie O'Sullivan ended 2020 by reaching the finals of the Scottish Open and the World Grand Prix, but lost in both deciders.

He went down 9-3 to Mark Selby in the Scottish Open final, and was comprehensively beaten 6-1 by Judd Trump in the final of the World Grand Prix.

O'Sullivan beat Ding Junhui in the opening round of The Masters in January, only to then lose to John Higgins in the second round.

At the latest Championship League event last week, O'Sullivan won his opening four games before losing three in a row.

He made a winning start at the Welsh Open when quickly defeating Robbie Williams 4-0 in the opening round. O'Sullivan then repeated the whitewash as he beat Jimmy White in the second round.

It was another 4-0 win against Martin Gould in the third round before he dropped his first frame of the tournament in a 4-1 win over Yuelong Zhou on Thursday.

Ali Carter Form

World number 26 Ali Carter is on a seven-match winning streak. He followed three straight Championship League wins last week with four victories at the Welsh Open.

Carter has had a tough route to the quarter-finals. He was taken to a decider before beating Daniel Wells 4-3 in the first round, then got the better of Aaron Hill 4-1 in the second round.

It was another final frame decider in a 4-3 win over world number six John Higgins in the third round. World number 10 Mark Allen was next as Carter triumphed 4-2 on Thursday.

Carter has been busy in the Championship League, which has been his only previous action this year. He played 15 matches last week, losing just three of them - one against O'Sullivan.
