World number three Ronnie O'Sullivan ended 2020 by reaching the finals of the Scottish Open and the World Grand Prix, but lost in both deciders.

He went down 9-3 to Mark Selby in the Scottish Open final, and was comprehensively beaten 6-1 by Judd Trump in the final of the World Grand Prix.

O'Sullivan beat Ding Junhui in the opening round of The Masters in January, only to then lose to John Higgins in the second round.

At the latest Championship League event last week, O'Sullivan won his opening four games before losing three in a row.

He made a winning start at the Welsh Open when quickly defeating Robbie Williams 4-0 in the opening round. O'Sullivan then repeated the whitewash as he beat Jimmy White in the second round.

It was another 4-0 win against Martin Gould in the third round before he dropped his first frame of the tournament in a 4-1 win over Yuelong Zhou on Thursday. He had a walkover win in the quarter-final when Ali Carter withdrew.

Mark Williams Form

World number 14 Mark Williams has had to grind his way to the last four, needing a final frame decider to beat Tom Ford 5-4 in the quarter-final on Friday.

Williams had earlier beaten Michael White 4-1, Liam Highfield 4-1, Joe Perry 4-2 and Hossein Vafaei 4-2 before beating Ford.

Since ending 2020 with a fourth round defeat to Judd Trump at the Scottish Open, Williams has been busy in the opening two months of 2021.

He lost 6-4 to Shaun Murphy in his opener at The Masters, and then reached the semi-final of the Snooker Shootout before losing to Ryan Day.

Williams played 22 matches in the Championship League last week and ended with a 10-12 win-loss record.
