Daniil Medvedev will face Dominic Thiem in the ATP Finals final on Saturday. Thiem returns to the final after losing out at this stage in 2019, but will face a tough task in going one better with Medvedev showing some superb form.

Daniil Medvedev came into the ATP Finals having found some form after winning the Paris Masters. He got through some tough opponents before beating Alexander Zverev in a three set final.
Medvedev has once again shown that when he is in form he is a very difficult opponent. The Russian began his ATP Finals with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Alexander Zverev.
In his second match, Daniil Medvedev cruised past world No. 1 Novak Djokovic with a 6-3 6-3 win victory. That was followed with another commanding performance as Medvedev saw off Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-3.
After cruising past his opening three opponents, things went slightly differently in the semi-final against Rafael Nadal. After dominating the first six matches of the first set but failing to get a break, Nadal showed his class to win it 6-3. Medvedev once again dominated the second set but at 4-1 he let Nadal break him twice with the Spaniard eventually serving for the match.
Fortunately for the Russian, he managed to get the break at win the second set in a tie break. The match eventually went Daniil Medvedev’s way with a 3-6 7-6 6-3 victory.

Dominic Thiem has enjoyed 2020 since taking his first ever Grand Slam title at the US Open with victory over Alexander Zverev in five sets.
The Austrian suffered a surprise exit from the French Open at the quarter-final stage, and then struggled with injury at his home tournament, the Vienna Open.
Thiem reached the final of the 2019 ATP Finals and came into this year’s event looking to go one better. He got off to the best possible start with a three set 7-6 4-6 6-3 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. That was followed with a 7-6 7-6 victory over Rafael Nadal in his second match.
The world No. 3, having already qualified, took his foot off the gas in his final group stage game and came unstuck 6-2 7-5 to Andrey Rublev.
Thiem bounced back in the semi-final though as he beat Novak Djokovic 7-5 6-7 7-6 to reach the final. This will be Thiem’s second successive ATP Finals final.
