Daniil Medvedev is 46-20 this year, but has been unable to win a title after losing to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final and Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells Masters final.

The Russian couldn’t reach a semi-final on clay but improved on grass at Wimbledon, beating Sinner on his way to the semi-finals where he lost to Alcaraz once again.

The World No.4 kept coming up short against Top 3 players, knocked out by Sinner in the US Open quarter-finals and Alcaraz in the China Open semi-finals.

Medvedev’s struggles continued in Shanghai when he was beaten 6-1 6-4 by Sinner in the quarter-finals and it is now three straight losses after defeats in the Six Kings Slam and Paris Masters.

Taylor Fritz is 49-21 this year, winning titles at Delray Beach and Eastbourne. He was below his best on returning to the North American hard court swing, beaten early in Montreal and Cincinnati.

The 26-year-old rapidly improved at the US Open, beating Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev and Frances Tiafoe on his way to the final. He couldn’t stick with Jannik Sinner in the final, going down in straight sets.

The American beat Zverev at the Laver Cup before a loss against Carlos Alcaraz. He then lost in three sets to Arthur Fils in his opening match in Tokyo.

Fritz was much better in Shanghai, defeating Terence Atmane, Yosuke Watanuki, Holger Rune and David Goffin before losing to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

The World No.6 suffered an early exit in the Paris Masters most recently, going down to Jack Draper in three sets in the second round.
