The 22-year-old reached another quarter-final at the Miami Masters.

Tsitsipas started the cay court season in the best possible fashion. He failed to lose a set at the Monte Carlo Masters, beating Andrey Rublev 6-3 6-3 in the final.

The Greek went to Barcelona and reached another final without losing a set. He came up against Rafael Nadal in the showpiece, losing 6-4 6-7 7-5 in an epic match.

Stefanos Tsitsipas fell to Casper Ruud in the Madrid Masters second round but bounced back in Rome.

He showed some top form in Italy, beating Marin Cilic and Matteo Berrettini in straight sets before a 4-6 7-5 7-5 loss to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

Diego Schwartzman

Diego Schwartzman won in Buenos Aires in March. He has struggled in Europe, going 2-4 in six matches.

The Argentine lost in the first rounds in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.

He beat Francis Tiafoe and Corentin Moutet in Barcelona before a quarter-final exit to Pablo Carreno Busta.

David Goffin won in Montpellier in March, beating Roberto Bautista Agut in the final. He went 1-4 in his last five matches on hard courts.

His clay court swing got underway in Monte Carlo, beating Alexander Zverev 6-4 7-6 on his way to the quarter-finals where he lost to Daniel Evans.

Goffin retired against Cameron Norrie in the second round in Barcelona.

He went to Rome where he recorded a tame 6-2 6-1 second round exit to World No.64 Federico Delbonis. He won just 59% of his 1st serves and 33% of his 2nd serves.

Little Chance

Karen Khachanov has lost his four matches heading into Lyon. Gael Monfils has lost his last eight matches and has played just three matches in 2021.

Outsiders

Jannik Sinner reached the Miami Masters final and Barcelona semi-finals, losing 6-3 6-3 to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He takes on Aslan Karatsev in the first round, who won in Dubai and reached the final in Belgrade, knocking out Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

The winner of that clash could take on Dominic Thiem in the quarters, with the winner of that a good chance of reaching the final.

Felix Auger-Aliassime is 4-4 on clay this season, having beaten Denis Shapovalov and Diego Schwartzman in that run.

Route to the Final

In the top half of the draw, Dominic Thiem could face a tricky quarter-final against Jannik Sinner or Aslan Karatsev. The winner of that quarter should be in a strong position to reach the final.

The lower half of the draw sees Stefanos Tsitsipas stand out with a comfortable road to the semi-finals. He is a logical choice to reach the final.

Verdict

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the player in form heading to Lyon, winning in Monte Carlo and reaching the final in Barcelona. He has a comfortable route to the final.

An upset could be in store in the top half of the draw. Jannik Sinner and Aslan Karatsev is a high profile first round clash and the winner could gain momentum and reach the final.
