Luciano Darderi failed to qualify at the Australian Open but bounced back on clay. He won the Cordoba Open as a qualifier, his first WTA Tour title.

The Italian couldn’t back up in Buenos Aires and Rio De Janeiro, ending the South American swing with a quarter-final appearance in Santiago.

The 22-year-old got back on clay in Houston where he went out to Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals. He went out in the first round in Bucharest last week, losing 6-2 6-3 to Mariano Navone after winning 26% of his 2nd serves.
