History

The Qatar Open has been held since 1993 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, Qatar. The tournament has been the ceremonial opening of the ATP World Tour season since 2009.

In 2010 Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer played on a "magic carpet" tennis court in the Souq Waqif. The 2011 Qatar Open saw Nadal and Federer play on a court laid in the water of Doha Bay.

The 2012 Qatar Open was another unique experience, Federer and Nadal playing on a tennis court in the Katara amphitheatre at sunset with more than 4000 burning Roman candles.
