Defending champion Novak Djokovic got his 2021 Australian Open underway with a comfortable first round victory on Monday, and bookmaker Coral reacted by making the Serbian their 5/4 favourite to win the men's singles.

Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead told FreeTips.com: "Djokovic looked in sublime touch for his first round match, comfortably seeing off Jeremy Chardy in straight sets, and he is the 5-4 favourite to win the Australian Open again this year."

Daniil Medvedev is the second favourite at 4/1 at time of writing, ahead of Dominic Thiem at 6/1.

In the women's tournament, Naomi Osaka leads the betting at 9/2, ahead of Ash Barty (5/1) and Serena Williams (9/1).

"Serena Williams is firmly in the mix for glory in Melbourne but it is Naomi Osaka that is the favourite in our market for the winner of the women's tournament," added Aitkenhead.
