Coco Gauff has won 22 of her previous 24 matches and is 9-0 this year. Paula Badosa can take a set here, but Gauff should be too good in the end.

Form

Coco Gauff was consistent last year, winning the Auckland International alongside semi-final exits at the Australian Open and French Open.

The 20-year-old ended the season by taking out the WTA Finals to solidify her position in the Top 3. She started 2025 going 5-0 as USA won the United Cup, ending by beating Iga Swiatek 6-4 6-4 in the final.

The American had no problems in her opening three matches at the Australian Open, defeating Sofia Kenin, Jodie Burrage and Leylah Fernandez in straight sets.

Gauff had to do it the hard way in the fourth round, overcoming Belinda Bencic 5-7 6-2 6-1 in over two hours. She won 42% of her 2nd serves but was impressive after the first set, not allowing a break point from then on.

Paula Badosa

Nationality: Spain
Age: 27 (15 November 1997)
Height: 5'11" (1.80m)
Plays: Right-Handed
World Ranking: 12
Career High: 2 (April 2022)
WTA Tour Titles: 4
2025 WTA Tour Titles: 0

Australian Open Best Result: Fourth Round (2022)

Form

Paula Badosa dropped out of the Top 100 in May, rapidly improving on hard courts where she won the Washington Open. She had a consistent end to the season, reaching semi-finals in Cincinnati, Beijing and Ningbo.

The 27-year-old had a disappointing start to 2025, going out early in Brisbane and Adelaide to players outside the Top 40.

The Spaniard had no problems in her opening two matches at the Australian Open, beating Xin Yu Wang and Talia Gibson in straight sets. She saved 13/17 break points in a 6-4 4-6 6-3 third round victory over Marta Kostyuk.

Badosa stopped the in-form Olga Danilovic in the fourth round, winning 6-1 7-6 in 80 minutes. Her serve made the difference, converting 31/38 of her first serves.

Verdict

Coco Gauff has won all nine matches this year and won two straight against Paula Badosa. Gauff is a short priced favourite here, my money on the World No.3 winning in 3 sets.
