Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Predictions
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the talk of Melbourne once more after a superb five-set win over Rafael Nadal to reach the Australian Open semifinals.
He said he was ‘flying’ against Nadal, but if anyone can bring him down to earth, it’s Daniil Medvedev. The Russian has won five of their six matches and looks in excellent form and his defensive, junkballing game can neutralise the attacking Greek.
- Daniil Medvedev has won 5 of his last 6 matches in straight sets
- Daniil Medvedev has conceded 1 or less breaks of serve in 3 of his last 5 matches
- Stefanos Tsitsipas is 0-2 in Grand Slam semifinal matches
- Stefanos Tsitsipas has won over 60% of second-serve points in 5 of his last 6 matches

Medvedev won their only Grand Slam encounter 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 (38 games, margin of 6). However, Tsitsipas did win their most recent match at the ATP Finals in 2019.

Daniil Medvedev Form
A finalist at the US Open in 2019, Daniil Medvedev maintained his stranglehold over matches against his compatriot Andrey Rublev with a 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 victory in the quarterfinals.
Medvedev soaked up Rublev’s pace with his impenetrable defense, junkballed Rublev to force him into errors and wore him down physically in a surprisingly gruelling straight-sets match. Medvedev was broken just once and won over 50% of his second-serve points for the third match in a row.
Medvedev has only been dragged past straight sets once at this Australian Open and looks well placed to reach his first final in Melbourne. He has a great record vs Tsitsipas precisely because he can absorb Tsitsipas’s attack, outlast him and it’s difficult to see how Tsitsipas can change that in Melbourne.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Form
For the second time at the Australian Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas was taken the distance on Wednesday.
But unlike a sometimes frustrating clash with Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round, Tsitsipas will have few complaints about his quarterfinal encounter with Rafael Nadal.
Completely outplayed in the first two sets, Tsitsipas lifted his level and played probably the best tennis we have ever seen from him. He became just the second man to come back from two sets down to beat Nadal at a Grand Slam.
The 3-6, 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4, 7-5 victory saw Tsitsipas serve brilliantly for the last three sets and produce a dazzling display of attacking tennis. However, it’s likely to have left him mentally and emotionally drained, which does not bode well for playing Medvedev.
Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet in the semifinals of the Australian Open on Friday 19 February.
