Fabio Fognini Form
Fognini, an injury-prone player, underwent multiple ankle surgeries in 2020, a season during which he played just 15 matches.
The Italian did not look impressive in the run-up to the Australian Open. Nor did his wins over Pierre-Hugues Herbert in straights and Salvatore Caruso in a five-set thriller which ended in a tie-break.
What did impress from Fognini was his 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 demolition of Alex de Minaur in the third round.
Fognini was broken when serving for the match and got tight at the end of the third set. Otherwise he was nearly flawless, although de Minaur also lacks the outright weapons to disrupt him.
