Iga Swiatek vs Simona Halep Predictions
Simona Halep had a major scare in the second round vs Ajla Tomljanovic, and looked less than totally convincing against Veronika Kudermetova.
Halep was totally blown away by Iga Swiatek’s brilliant shotmaking when they played at the French Open in 2020. She had crushed Swiatek at the same tournament the previous year, but Swiatek is much more confident since then.
- Simona Halep has won three of her last five matches in straight sets
- Simona Halep has won less than 50% of second-serve points in her last two matches
- Iga Swiatek is on a ten-match winning streak at Grand Slams
- Those ten matches have lasted 19 games or fewer
Head to Head
The head-to-head between Iga Swiatek and Simona Halep is 1-1.
Halep won 6-1, 6-0 at the French Open in 2019. Swiatek won 6-1, 6-2 at the French Open last September.

Iga Swiatek Form
Iga Swiatek dazzled the world when she won her maiden major title at the French Open in September.
She did not drop a set, or more than five games in a match as she beat Halep and Sofia Kenin on her way to the title.
Defeated by Ekaterina Alexandrova last week, Swiatek has not dropped a set so far at the Australian Open. The Pole conceded ten games in total in wins over Arantxa Rus and Camila Giorgi before beating Fiona Ferro 6-4, 6-3.
Swiatek was broken three times by Ferro, who was a tough opponent, but the Pole is playing brilliant tennis.

Simona Halep Form
After a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lizette Cabrera to kick off her Australian Open campaign, Halep had to fight extremely hard against Ajla Tomljanovic. The Romanian came back from 2-5 down in the decider to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Halep called for the trainer in her subsequent doubles match. She beat Veronika Kudermetova 6-1, 6-3, but it was not a totally convincing performance. Halep was broken twice in the second set and had Kudermetova not served at 42% of first serves for the match, the result might have been different.
Halep will have to play a lot better than she did against Kudermetova to beat Swiatek, and she hasn’t really proved she has that level at the moment.
Iga Swiatek and Simona Halep meet in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Sunday 14 January.
