Serena Williams vs Nina Stojanovic Predictions
‘Vintage Serena’ was how Williams described her form in her first-round win over Laura Siegemund.
The American came in with injury concerns after pulling out of the Yarra Valley Classic semifinals last week.
However there were no signs of any shoulder problems in her victory over Siegemund. World no. 99 Nina Stojanovic is unlikely to be able to make Williams’s life too difficult.
- Serena Williams hit 4 aces and won 80% of first-serve points vs Siegemund.
- Serena Williams is 88-12 at the Australian Open.
- Nina Stojanovic got her first main-draw Grand Slam win in the first round.
- World no. 99 Stojanovic has never beaten a top-20 player.

Serena Williams Form
Despite having won the Australian Open seven times, there were doubts about Serena Williams’s chances coming into this tournament. The 39-year-old had pulled out of last week’s Yarra Valley Classic due to a right shoulder injury after reaching the semifinals.
Williams was broken immediately by Laura Siegemund on Monday, but won the next 12 games and wrapped up a 6-1, 6-1 victory in 56 minutes.
The tenth seed hit four aces, won 80% of points behind her first serve and 64% of points behind her second, losing only nine points on serve. She hit 16 winners to 15 unforced errors and converted six of nine break points.

Nina Stojanovic Form
Stojanovic’s first-round victory over Irina-Camelia Begu was the first Grand Slam win of her career in a main-draw match.
The Serbian player is 11-15 against top-100 players and lost to Danielle Collins at last week’s Yarra Valley Classic 2-6, 1-6. She has made WTA Tour quarterfinals in Jurmala, Nuremberg and Nanchang.
Against Begu, Stojanovic served five double faults but only one ace. She was able to save eight of the break points she conceded and broke Begu five times, but she will struggle against Williams unless she can serve much more impressively.
Serena Williams and Nina Stojanovic meet in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday 10 February (2am GMT scheduled start).
