Sofia Kenin vs Maddison Inglis Predictions
Kenin was a surprise Australian Open champion 12 months ago when she defeated world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty and two-time Grand Slam winner Garbine Muguruza to claim her maiden major title.
But the American proved it was no fluke when she went on to reach the French Open final.
The fourth seed starts her title defence against wildcard Maddison Inglis, who is ranked world no. 130, on Tuesday.
- Kenin is 5-2 in 2021 after a strong start to the year
- The American hasn’t lost to a player ranked outside the top 100 since 2018
- Inglis is on a five-match losing streak dating back almost a year
- Australian wildcard is 0-3 in main-draw Grand Slam matches

Sofia Kenin Form
Despite all of the disruptions of the 2020 season, Kenin proved she has a lot of wins in her. And she has made a solid start to the 2021 season.
Last seen losing to Iga Swiatek in the French Open final, Kenin’s return to competition saw her compile a 5-2 win-loss record over Abu Dhabi and last week’s Yarra Valley Classic.
The 22-year-old made quarterfinals at both tournaments, beating Camila Giorgi and Jessica Pegula in Melbourne last week before falling to Garbine Muguruza 2-6, 2-6 in a rematch of last year’s Australian Open final.
The only real question mark is how Kenin will deal with the pressure of being defending champion at a Grand Slam.

Maddison Inglis Form
Like Kenin, Inglis hit her career-high ranking shortly before the sport shut down for six months in March 2020.
In Inglis’s case, she had climbed from well outside the top 300 to inside the world’s top 120 after a series of strong performances in ITF events, including her second career win over a top-100 player.
But Inglis has not won a match since the sport resumed in late August 2020 and comes into the Australian Open, for which she has a wildcard, on a five-match losing streak.
Her only singles match so far in 2021 was a 2-6, 1-6 defeat to Rebecca Peterson at the Yarra Valley Classic.
She has never faced a top-10 player and has lost all four previous meetings with players ranked inside the top 50.
Sofia Kenin and Maddison Inglis meet in the first round of the Australian Open on Tuesday 9 February (12am GMT scheduled start).
