Andrey Rublev has been one of the more vulnerable and beatable players inside the top 10 for quite some time now, and with his current dip in form and confidence, he’s looking more beatable than ever.

That said, Jesper de Jong is probably not the opponent to take full advantage of the situation. Thanks to a relatively kind draw, Rublev is expected to survive the opening round and make it through to the next stage in Barcelona.

Jesper de Jong has done well to beat Lloyd Harris and Arthur Rinderknech over the past two days, earning himself a spot in the main draw of the ATP Barcelona tournament in his debut appearance.

Thanks to these solid wins, the Dutchman will now get another chance to compete in the main draw of an ATP event this year. It has already been the best season of his career at this level.

He started the 2025 season without a single main draw win at ATP level, but in just four months, he has already picked up four of them.

His big breakthrough came back in February when he reached the semifinals in Montpellier, beating players like Flavio Cobolli and Tallon Griekspoor along the way.

More recently, he added another win to his name by beating Elliot Benchetrit in the first round in Marrakech.

These runs on the main tour have finally helped him crack the top 100 in the rankings, something he had been chasing for a while.

All the hype around Andrey Rublev teaming up with Marat Safin came crashing down last week, as their first outing together at the Monte Carlo Masters ended in disappointment. Rublev lost 2-6, 3-6 to Arthur Fils in the round of 16.

Since lifting the trophy in Doha back in February — a win that sparked hopes of him returning to top form — Rublev has played five matches and lost four of them. That rough patch has left him hanging onto his top-10 ranking by a thread.

If this poor form continues, the Russian could soon find himself slipping out of the top 10, especially with a big chunk of points to defend at the Madrid Masters next week.

With that in mind, Rublev really needs a strong run in Barcelona this week to get his confidence back and bring some belief into his camp.

That said, Barcelona has never been the happiest hunting ground for him. He’s failed to make it past qualifying in three of his six previous visits, and his main draw record here currently sits at three wins and three losses.
