Alexander Zverev’s rough patch has rolled into the European clay swing too. He kicked things off at the Monte Carlo Masters last week but copped a first-round exit, losing to Matteo Berrettini after taking the opening set.

With Jannik Sinner out on suspension, all eyes have been on Zverev, and it’s pretty clear he’s been struggling to handle the extra pressure, attention and expectations.

Since Sinner copped that three-month ban back in Feb, Zverev’s played 12 matches and only managed six wins.

That sort of pattern screams a lack of belief and confidence when it matters most.

Munich could be the perfect place for him to reset and pick up a few wins, which he badly needs to lift his spirits.

He’s a two-time champ at this home tournament, and even though his recent results here haven’t been great, that’s mostly down to him focusing more on Madrid, which kicks off just a day after Munich wraps up.

Alexandre Muller had a real chance at a big win at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he went up against an out-of-sorts Daniil Medvedev but ended up going down in three sets in the second round.

He’s got another crack at a big scalp this week in Munich, where he’ll take on a struggling Alexander Zverev in the opening round.

The Frenchman has faced top-10 players nine times in his career so far and has only come out on top once – that win came against Andrey Rublev at the Rome Masters last year.

Muller will head into this matchup full of belief, riding the momentum from a strong start to the season.

He’s already picked up 14 wins in these first four months, played in two championship matches on the main tour, and recently cracked the top 40 in the ATP rankings for the first time.
