2019 ATP Canadian Open Preview, Predictions, Betting Tips & Live Stream

The US Open series gets underway in earnest on Monday when the ATP Tour’s top players turn out for the Masters 1000 Canadian Open in Montreal. A field shorn of World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and World No. 3 Roger Federer means the remaining member of the Big Three, Rafael Nadal, headlines both the tournament and the betting odds.

2019 ATP Canadian Open Betting Odds

Below are the top 10 contenders to win the 2019 ATP Canadian Open outright. All odds provided by bet365 and correct on 5 August, 2019.

  • Stefanos Tsitsipas (13.00)
  • Daniil Medvedev (12.00)
  • Kei Nishikori (15.00)

  • Milos Raonic (23.00)

2019 ATP Canadian Open Top Contenders

Rafael Nadal (3.00)

A look at the Canadian Open odds shows how far ahead Rafael Nadal is compared to everyone else in Montreal, particularly in the absence of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. He enters the tournament in superb form, having won two titles (Rome, French Open) and reached the Wimbledon semi-final in his past three events. Nadal also arrives at the Canadian Open as the defending and four-time champion. If he is fit, he should win.

Alexander Zverev (10.00)

Alexander Zverev has not had the best of seasons when compared to his illustrious 2018, with one small title, at the Geneva Open, to his name. However, there is no denying the World No. 7’s talent and as a former champion at the Canadian Open, there is every chance he strings together a good run of results.

Dominic Thiem (10.00)

After a brief showing at Wimbledon, Dominic Thiem immediately return to his favoured clay courts and heads to the Canadian Open following a title at the Austria Open Kitzbuhel. Thiem has proved that he can win titles on hard courts and claimed the biggest trophy of his career at Indian Wells earlier in the season. If the World No. 4 can replicate that form in Montreal then he can be a serious contender.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (13.00)

Stefanos Tsitsipas has moved up to a career high No. 5 in the ATP Tour rankings and has established himself as the leading light of the next generation. Tsitsipas began his US Open series campaign with a semi-final showing at the Citi Washington Open and he reached the Canadian Open final 12 months ago. Being drawn in the same half as Rafael Nadal tempers his chances somewhat, but the Greek has the game and form to go far.

Daniil Medvedev (12.00)

Outisde of the Big Three, few players have been as consistent as Daniil Medvedev this season. The Russian has won one title and reached a further three finals, most recently coming up short in a tight encounter against Nick Kyrgios at the Citi Washington Open. Medvedev is drawn in the bottom half and should be considered the favourite to reach the final.

2019 ATP Canadian Open Outsiders

Nick Kyrgios (17.00)

Nick Kyrgios made headlines for all the right reasons last week when he provided endless entertainment and a stark reminder of his class by winning the Citi Washington Open title. After proving our prediction right, can the unpredictable Australian deliver in successive weeks? He certainly has the talent, but whether he has the focus to go again is another matter.

Felix Auger-Aliassime (19.00)

In front of his home crowd in his favoured conditions, Felix Auger-Aliassime is certainly an outsider to keep an eye on this week at the Canadian Open. The World No. 21 has reached three ATP Tour finals so far this season and has the ability to reach a fourth in Montreal.

Stan Wawrinka (26.00)

There is no denying Stan Wawrinka is not quite the player he was pre-knee injury, but the three-time Grand Slam champion remains a danger at the biggest tournaments. If he can build some early momentum and get to the latter stages, Wawrinka can contend this week.

Karen Khachanov (29.00)

It has been a hit-and-miss season so far for Karen Khachanov, who possesses an 18-17 win-loss record. However, the Russian World No. 8 is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour and outdoor hard courts are his preferred conditions. If he can find some form, Khachanov could spring a surprise this week.

2019 ATP Canadian Open Key Stats

  • There are three former champions competing in the 2019 Canadian Open: Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
  • Of Rafael Nadal’s four Canadian Open titles, he has won two each in Montreal and Toronto.

2019 ATP Canadian Betting Odds

It is difficult to look beyond Rafael Nadal to successfully defend his title and win the Canadian Open for a fifth time. The top seed is in fine form and has rested his creaking body after Wimbledon. If Nadal does somehow tumble, then Stefanos Tsitsipas is best placed to take advantage so we expect a winner from the top half of the draw.
