Karen Khachanov vs Daniil Medvedev Preview, Prediction, Betting Tips & Live Stream

Two of the brightest talents on the ATP Tour will contest the semi-final of the 2019 ATP Canadian Open on Saturday when sixth seed Karen Khachanov faces eighth seed Daniil Medvedev. Both players have been in fine form in Montreal, with the bookmakers giving the advantage to Medvedev, who is priced around ?.?? to win and reach the final.

2019 ATP Canadian Open Karen Khachanov Form

Nationality: Russia
Age: 23 (21/05/1996)
World Ranking: 8
Career Titles: 4
2019 Titles: 0
Canadian Open Best Result: Semi-Finals (2018)

After a breakthrough season in 2018 which comprised three titles – including the biggest of his career at the Paris Masters – Karen Khachanov has endured a largely ordinary 2019, with just three quarter-final showings his best efforts.

It has therefore been a welcome return to form for the World No. 8 at the Canadian Open in Montreal – and he has had a tough route to the semi-finals. After receiving a first-round bye, Khachanov defeated three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, before dashing local hopes by beating the talented teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

The 23-year-old Russian then took out third seed Alexander Zverev in impressive style, 6-3, 6-3, to reach the semi-finals. Given his talent, Khachanov's run at the Canadian Open is not entirely surprising, and we backed him as one of the outsiders who could win the title.

Khachanov is the more attacking of the two players in this semi-final match-up, so how he controls his aggression and maintains consistency will be key to his chances of victory.

2019 ATP Canadian Open Daniil Medvedev Form

Nationality: Russia
Age: 23 (11/02/1996)
World Ranking: 9
Career Titles: 4
2019 Titles: 1
Canadian Open Best Result: Third Round (2018)

While Karen Khachanov has struggled for form and consistency this season, the same certainly cannot be said for Daniil Medvedev. The Russian has won one title and reached a further three finals – most recently last week where he lost narrowly to Nick Kyrgios in the Washington Open final, proving our final tips right in the process.

Medvedev has maintained his superb form in Montreal and is yet to drop a set en route to the semi-finals. He began in the second round, dismantling Kyle Edmund 6-3, 6-0, before cruising past Christian Garin 6-3, 6-3. Then came his most impressive display of the tournament, a 6-3, 6-1 thrashing of Dominic Thiem, needing just 56 minutes to get past the second seed.

While Medvedev will assume more of a defensive role against Khachanov, that does not mean he is incapable of fighting fire with fire as he possesses plenty of power in his serve and forehand.
