Chile Open History

The first edition of the Chile Open was held in Santiago in November 1993. Brazil had suspended its three ATP tournaments in 1992 but the ATP wanted to keep them in Latin America.

The Chile Open was held in Santiago until 2000 with no tournament held in 1999 due to the ATP's decision to reschedule the tournament to February 2000.

In 2001 the Chile Open moved to Viña del Mar where Chile's Fernando González won four titles in 2002, 2004, 2008 & 2009. The tournament moved back to Santiago in 2010 before returning to Viña del Mar in 2012.

The Chile Open stayed at Santiago until 2014 when the tournament was folded due to sponsorship difficulties. In October 2019 it was confirmed that the Chile Open would return to Santiago after six years. The tournament returned in 2020 with Brazil's Thiago Seyboth Wild won his first ATP Tour title and becoming the first player born in 2000 to win an ATP Tour title.

Many top-ten tennis players have taken part at the Chile Open including Mats Wilander, Jim Courier, Carlos Moyà, Gustavo Kuerten, David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco and Rafael Nadal.
